We all heard this from almost every content creator that we need to niche down for content creation, but the question is changing after the emergence of IG reels and TikTok: Where creators need to be more personalized and more diverse, no doubt, for sure, in the past, when blogging and Youtubing were in the early stages, niching down was profitable, but do we really need to niche down now?
For understanding this, I try to look at what experts say about this and what is really working for new creators.
Gary Vee, who doesn’t know him, year by year consistently advocates for content creation, and he is very pragmatic about content creation. He always says that content creation is about being you. No matter what you create, being yourself should be a must.
No doubt that we need to create content that the audience loves, but at the same time we need to understand that if we don’t explore and keep creating, the audience will surely shift to other creators.
Experimenting in content creation is not as easy as it looks because of the fear of ignoring your audience, but you need to do it for your long-term career. If you don’t explore, you may leave the relevancy for your audience.
Let’s take the example of Kardashian; they are keeping evolving their content to stay relevant. Indian creators like Bhuvan Bam and Prajakta Koli are some of the best examples of exploring and not sticking with one niche.
So, niching down definitely has the benefit of having authority over one type of content, and this gives an edge over other creators, and you may have less competition in your niche, which can make a synonym of a particular niche, and it’s an advantage like MKBHD, who we all know for tech, and he is kind of a synonym of his category, and when you engage within one niche, you will get an audience who can become your superfan.
Experimenting in your niche: Like I said, if you didn’t evolve yourself, your audience will leave you because they are definitely evolving by the time. So you should start experimenting in your niche too for staying relevant for your audience.
As tech YouTuber Gyan Thearpy said, staying on principle and focusing on the content is important.
At the end, niching down is beneficial, and it can give you an advantage, but not creating the content just because you are not able to find your niche is not a good deal. You need to create content, and in that journey you will find your niche, so focus on creating, and if you have already decided what your niche will be, then focus on creating rather than thinking. Always remember,
Execution is the necessary thing to get success; if you didn’t execute, you will not get anything, so focus on executing the ideas rather than keeping them in your mind.
